5 gallon planted aquarium with Betta fish 2x Java Fern 2x Marimo Moss Balls 3x Anacharis strands A bunch of Frogbit 1x oriental Sword I just added some new substrate to my tank. It is called SeaChem Flourite, and it is supposed to be good for aquatic plants. I rinsed it about 5 times in a bucket (until the water rinsing away wasn't brown) before putting it in. The clay particles fogged up the water for about 1 day, which wasn't bad at all. I've heard for some people it takes weeks. This video is under 48 hours after I installed the new substrate. The fish seems happy and healthy. I feed him frozen bloodworms once a day now, rather than flake food. He likes them a lot better. I actually bought this fish on eBay and had him shipped here. I was nervous about that but everything worked out just fine. He isn't done growing yet and I can't wait for him to fill out those pretty black fins of his. I think he's only about 4-5 months old right now. The plants are really easy to care for. I add some Flourish Excel (liquid fertilizer) about twice a week. No CO2, just a regular fluorescent aquarium bulb from Walmart. See, you CAN get a beautiful planted tank even if you are limited in size and/or expertise ;) Just start fiddling around with plants and it all comes together nicely in the end.
