My DIY over top filter for 55 gallon freshwater aquarium

I have had this filter going for well over a year now. I used to just set the drawers on top of the frame of the tank but recently I added the opaque tub on the bottom. Initally it was able to fill up pretty high but I was concerned about the amount of weight on the frame so I cut the drain notch down lower to bring the weight down. I am going to add some plants in the reservoir so that they can soak up some of the nitrates etc. Right now it is empty except for a few guppies and some snails. The submersible pump I use is a . My tank parameters are nearly perfect. I have some giant danio and a very young red devil in this tank. The RD was hiding. I use a nice dual sided filter floss on top that drips down into the top drawer and then drips down into the second drawer which has loosely wound, acrylic yarn balls in it. I have used these without any problem. They offer a lot of surface area of the beneficial bacteria to grow. I used to have the third bottom drawer in there but removed it once I put it in the tub. Will fill tub with gravel and plants. I am always open to helpful ideas.
